Marie is a glaciologist at the University of Innsbruck, currently pursuing her PhD on glaciers in Greenland. Long before entering academia, she was fascinated by glaciers, mountains, and nature. Through mountaineering and skiing, she spent a lot of time outdoors and learned to feel at home in harsh alpine environments, without realizing at the time that these landscapes could be studied as a career.
During her studies in atmospheric and cryospheric sciences, her interest in glaciers kept growing and eventually led her to glaciology. Today, she researches rare glacier formations in northern Greenland and has been fortunate to visit glaciated regions around the world, from the Alps to South America, Alaska, and Greenland.
